Kikiwai owner has sold the company over to some other person who has yet to open up the store in the past 4 months since the deal was handed over. Its unclear of when it will be back open sadly.
What?! They sold the company, really? I heard it was open in December for a bit, but hasn't been open since then...
Any idea why or how that happened?
We talked to the original owner and all he said was that they sold the store and now hasnt recieved any word with the new owners of when they plan to open the store.
Sadly he didnt really get into detail of why or how that happened. But when my friends and i went one day we've noticed couple pieces of mail inside on the floor of kikiwai store, so probably safe to say that they havent been opened for a while!
Actually... I think they haven't been open since probably before the 8th of December. There was a piece of paper taped on the door about something that was dated December 8, 2008, but it has since been removed.
lol well it doesnt really matter when they really did close. Just that the original owner doesnt know when the new owners will open the store.
I certainly hope its before march because i was hoping to buy a cosplay from them...otherwise i have to start making mine now! lol
I'm not surprising to hear stores close down as economy is poor now. Hobby stores, such as like Kikiwai really have limited target customers (whom are usually teenagers). But hopefully the store would re-open again, since there are not a lot of places sell anime goods in Toronto.
Yeah i noe i really hope they open up before Mtac cause i wanted a cosplay...hopefully they will open :D:D:D

lol actually today i went to a store near kikiwai and they are open and they sell anime stuff too. they sell similar things to kikiwai (minus the cosplay). its actually a reasonable price (12 something for a manga) the store name is anime extreme inc. (http://www.animextreme-inc.ca/)

but the store i went to in splendid chinatower is called "cosroom" its a cosplay store where you get fitted for any cosplay u want n they'll make it for you in a months time (less than a month, normally 3 weeks or so) its right across from pacific mall
Well... I went to AN and asked about the store. They only do cons now, so you can forget about waiting for the store to open up again.
Does anyone actually no when Kikiwai is going to open? I heard that it was infested with cockroaches or something...

The one in Metro Square closed at least 2 years ago last I heard. Kikiwai will only appear at conventions now, so it'd probably be better to look elsewhere for imports and whatnot, considering the fact that there's a "For Sale" sign on the door of the unit. I've already found a reasonable (albeit online) shop for what I want.
As for Cosroom, maybe check the door for a sign? It's possible that the owner is in another shop...

The Cosroom store is still opened just that they tend to open late around 12:00ish oclock. however pasted that time sometimes they do have their door close to tend to the other store beside them since they own two stores.

The Labyrinth and The Beguiling are probably your best bets, but I'm being a little biased here because they're relative close to campus (within 20minutes walking).
The Labyrinth can be found along Bloor, near Spadina station. The Beguiling is a little further away at Bloor and Markham.
